Plant the Seeds for the Ideal Care Experience: Harvest the Rewards

UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health, LP hosted the 2010 Long Term Care Symposium on April 21, 2010 at the Regional Learning Alliance Center in Cranberry Township, PA.

More than 125 long term care professional from the southwestern area of Pennsylvania as well as representatives from West Virginia attended the symposium. Participants included personal care and nursing home administrators, case managers, social workers and registered nurses.

"Plant the Seeds for the Ideal Care Experience: Harvest the Rewards" was the theme for this year’s conference. Presentations focused on caregiver compassion fatigue, patient and family centered care, fall prevention, facility case management, end of life issues and eating disorders in the elderly. UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health was privileged to present speakers with extensive expertise and experience in their field. Each speaker provided valuable insight into their topic along with techniques for applying the methods discussed.
The symposium also featured several displays provided by companies within UPMC Community Provider Services. Attendees were able to speak with the representatives from UPMC Home Medical Equipment, Chartwell Pennsylvania, RX Partners, Inc., Center for Rehab Services, UPMC Senior Communities and UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health. Each vendor provided information about their services while Home Health demonstrated Telehealth monitoring.
UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health was approved to award six CEUs, or the equivalent of six hours of instruction, upon completion of the symposium to personal care and nursing home administrators, social workers, case managers, and registered nurses.
This year's symposium was well received by attendees. Several participants commented on how much they value the education received at the symposium year after year. They also remarked about the ability to take these tools and directly apply them in their facilities.
